Once upon a time, each of us was somebody’s kid… No matter how we’re eventually raised, all of our stories begin the exact same way. They all end the same, too.

It always bugs me when people put down certain genders because of their idea of how gender works and what gender is.
Gender is not a thing that has been around since the beginning of life. There were no gender binaries in the Cambrian period of the Paleozoic Era. Gender is a social construct human beings created as our varying and diverse cultures formed and developed.
And now, with the flow of time everchanging, we are deciding that the gender binary isn’t a good enough system for us. Not only that, but the whole idea of gender and sex having to equate to each other is starting to be questioned and thrown away. Your gender and sex are connected if you feel they are.
And that’s the thing with people who say demigenders, or any other gender aren’t real because “gender doesn’t work that way”.
Human beings decide how gender works. It’s a social construct. There is no natural or static source for gender outside humanity and our cultures. If gender doesn’t work that way for you, it’s because that’s the only way you’re letting it work. It’s a concept, not a force.
Our genders absolutely do fit what gender is, because we’ve decided what we believe gender is and how it works for us. We’re breaking the binary, further and further with deeper exploration of gender identities and our varying feelings and beliefs about gender. We’re mixing, changing, becoming fluid or remaining static, and experimenting with language through labels and pronouns. Yes, even the ones you deem silly.
Gender is a social construct, and we’re putting it into our own hands. The construct of gender doesn’t tell us what to do, we tell the construct of gender what to do, because we, as humans, made it in the first place.
